Top 5 Duas I Make Every Tahajjud Prayer (With Arabic, Translation & Benefits)

One of the questions I receive most often is:

“Which duas do you personally recite during Tahajjud Prayer?”

Tahajjud is more than simply waking up in the last third of the night. It is a private meeting between you and Allah, free from distractions, where you can ask for forgiveness, guidance, relief from hardship, and blessings in both this life and the Hereafter.

For me, Tahajjud has become the most peaceful part of my day. It is during these quiet moments that I speak openly to Allah, thanking Him for His blessings, asking for forgiveness, and placing all of my hopes, fears, and worries before Him.

Over the past few years, these five powerful duas have become part of almost every Tahajjud prayer I perform. They cover the things we all need most: forgiveness, halal provision, freedom from debt, guidance, contentment, and barakah.

If you are looking for the best duas for Tahajjud Prayer, I pray this article benefits you.

Why Tahajjud Is the Best Time to Make Dua

The last third of the night is one of the most blessed times to turn to Allah.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Our Lord descends every night to the lowest heaven during the last third of the night and says: ‘Who is calling upon Me so that I may answer him? Who is asking of Me so that I may give him? Who is seeking My forgiveness so that I may forgive him?'”
(Sahih al-Bukhari & Sahih Muslim)

Imagine Allah inviting you to ask Him for anything.

This is why many Muslims reserve their deepest and most sincere duas for Tahajjud.

1. Sayyidul Istighfar – The Greatest Dua for Forgiveness

If I could recommend only one dua during Tahajjud, it would be Sayyidul Istighfar.

The Prophet ﷺ described it as the greatest supplication for seeking forgiveness.

Before asking Allah for anything else, I ask Him to forgive my sins. Every blessing begins with His mercy.

Transliteration

English Translation

“O Allah, You are my Lord. There is no deity worthy of worship except You. You created me, and I am Your servant. I strive to keep my covenant and promise to You as best as I can. I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done. I acknowledge before You all the blessings You have bestowed upon me, and I confess my sins. So forgive me, for surely no one can forgive sins except You.”

Why I recite this every Tahajjud

This dua reminds me that no matter how many mistakes I have made, Allah’s mercy is always greater. Before asking for success, wealth, or guidance, I first ask for forgiveness because forgiveness opens the doors to every other blessing.

Reference: Sahih al-Bukhari (6306)

2. Dua for Rizq (Halal Provision)

One of the things I regularly ask Allah for is halal rizq.

Rizq is much more than money. It includes health, family, opportunities, peace of mind, knowledge, time, and every blessing Allah provides.

Transliteration

Allahumma inni as’aluka min fadlika wa rahmatika fa innahu la yamlikuha illa anta.

English Translation

“O Allah, indeed I ask You for Your bounty and Your mercy, for none possesses them except You.”

Why I love this dua

Whenever I recite this dua, I remind myself that Allah alone is Ar-Razzaq (The Provider).

Every job, every business opportunity, every blessing and every answered prayer comes only from Him.

I don’t simply ask for wealth.

I ask for halal rizq filled with barakah.

3. Dua for Relief from Debt

Financial stress can become one of life’s greatest burdens.

The Prophet ﷺ taught us this beautiful dua asking Allah to provide halal sustenance and remove dependence on others.

Transliteration

Allahumma akfini bihalalika ‘an haramika wa aghnini bifadlika ‘amman siwaka.

English Translation

“O Allah, suffice me with what You have made lawful instead of what You have forbidden, and enrich me by Your bounty so that I have no need of anyone besides You.”

Why this dua is so powerful

This dua isn’t simply asking for money.

It asks Allah to:

  • Bless us with halal income.
  • Protect us from haram earnings.
  • Remove financial worries.
  • Make us independent through His generosity.
  • Increase our trust in Him.

If you are struggling with debt, this is one of the most beautiful supplications to include in your Tahajjud.

Reference: Jami’ at-Tirmidhi (3563)

4. Dua for Guidance, Taqwa, Chastity and Contentment

This short dua is one of the most comprehensive supplications taught by the Prophet ﷺ.

Transliteration

Allahumma inni as’alukal-huda wat-tuqa wal-‘afafa wal-ghina.

English Translation

“O Allah, I ask You for guidance, taqwa, chastity and contentment.”

Every word carries immense meaning

Guidance (Huda)

To remain on the straight path and make decisions pleasing to Allah.

Taqwa

To always be conscious of Allah in every action.

Chastity (‘Afaf)

To protect ourselves from sins and maintain purity.

Contentment (Ghina)

Not necessarily wealth, but a heart that is satisfied with whatever Allah has decreed.

Whenever I feel uncertain in life, I return to this dua because it asks Allah for exactly what every believer truly needs.

Reference: Sahih Muslim.

5. Dua for Wealth, Children and Barakah

Many people ask Allah for wealth.

But the Prophet ﷺ taught us to ask for something even greater:

Barakah.

Transliteration

Allahumma akthir malahu wa waladahu wa barik lahu fima a’taytahu.

English Translation

“O Allah, increase my wealth and offspring, and bless me in what You have given me.”

Why this dua is part of my Tahajjud

Having more isn’t always better.

What truly matters is having Allah’s blessing in what He has already given us.

Barakah in our family.

Barakah in our health.

Barakah in our income.

Barakah in our worship.

Barakah in our time.

A small blessing with barakah is worth far more than abundance without it.

Reference: Sahih al-Bukhari (6334, 6344, 6378, 6379)

My Personal Tahajjud Routine

People often ask whether there is a specific order for making dua during Tahajjud.

This is simply the routine that has worked for me over the past few years.

After completing my Tahajjud prayer, I remain seated for a few moments.

I begin by praising Allah.

I send peace and blessings upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

I then recite these five duas slowly, reflecting on every word and its meaning.

Finally, I speak to Allah in my own words.

Sometimes I ask Him to guide me.

Sometimes I ask Him to forgive me.

Sometimes I ask Him to help someone I love.

Sometimes I simply remain in sujood with tears in my eyes, speaking to Allah from my heart.

Those moments have become the most peaceful moments of my life.
